Maxine Cate Soprano Opera Singer

As well as singing for weddings concerts and church events, Maxine Cate recently performed as Belinda in Opera Nova's 1999 production of Purcell's "Dido & Aeneas" at the newly built Arc Theatre at Stockton-on-Tees. She joins St. Cuthbert's Church Choir at Kirkleatham from time to time, for example to participate in their celebrated Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by candlelight, and at the annual RSCM service in Durham Cathedral . Maxine has performed as a soloist at various concerts with Michael Addison (Organist & Choirmaster at St Cuthbert's, Kirkleatham) including a public performance as first Soprano in Bach's motet "Jesu Priceless Treasure" for five voices. She has also been honoured to perform by invitation at Gedney Church in Lincolnshire for several Years on behalf of the British Legion.

Maxine's past achievements :-

A scholarship, awarded to her shortly after leaving school, to act as a demonstration singer at Dartington Summer school for her teacher, Esther Salaman ( Married to Paul Hamburger, a great concert pianist at the time), who held master classes at the Dartington Summer school of music, as well as teaching Maxine at the Guildhall school of Music & Drama.

In 1978, she performed as the soloist in Handel's "Messiah", which was broadcast by BBC Radio 3. * In 1979 she was invited by the Highgate Rotary Club to sing "Rule Britannia" and "God Save the Queen" in the finale of the Youth Makes Music Festival which was performed at the Albert Hall! Maxine continued her musical studies under the pupilage of Corinne Sharman-Sarti, during which time Maxine sang with Surrey Opera in Verdi's La Traviata" and Croydon Stagers in " My Fair Lady", both of which were performed at The Fairfield Halls Croydon.
